🔥 Fire Prevention Week 🔥

October 4–10

sparky character from the NFPA
October is Fire Prevention Month, and this year’s message hits especially close to home.
As our neighboring communities in Palo Pinto and Jack Counties continue to respond to the Ross Fire, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the countless local, state, and mutual-aid firefighters, emergency responders, and support personnel who have worked—and continue to work—to protect families, homes, and communities. ❤️‍🔥

Wildfire reminds us just how quickly an emergency can change. Fire Prevention Week is a great time for every family to review their plan before an emergency happens.

🏠 Fire Safety Checklist for Families

🔥 Check your smoke alarms. Test every alarm and make sure there is a working smoke alarm on every level of your home and near sleeping areas.

🚪 Know two ways out. Make sure everyone in your household knows two ways to escape from each room, when possible, and establish a meeting place outside.

⏱️ Practice your escape plan. Children especially benefit from practicing what to do when an alarm sounds. Remember: Get out, stay out, and call 911.

🔋 Charge safely. This year's Fire Prevention Week theme is “Charge Into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” Use manufacturer-approved chargers, avoid charging devices under pillows or blankets, and unplug devices when they are fully charged when appropriate.

🌾 Know your wildfire risk. Keep leaves, brush, and other flammable materials away from your home and other structures. Know multiple evacuation routes from your home and neighborhood.

📱 Have emergency alerts turned on. Make sure your family can receive local emergency notifications and knows what to do if an evacuation order is issued.

🎒 Be ready to leave quickly. Keep important medications, essential documents, pet supplies, and other necessities easy to grab. If authorities tell you to evacuate, don't wait.

📍 Important Info for Erath County

Erath County currently has a Burn Ban & Welding Mitigation Order in effect through November 10, 2026. Outdoor burning is prohibited during the burn ban. Before conducting any outdoor burning when permitted, residents should check the current county status and call Erath County Dispatch at 254-965-3318.

❤️‍🔥 Thank you to every firefighter and first responder who puts themselves in harm's way to protect our communities. We see you, we appreciate you, and we are grateful for you.

Take a few minutes this week to talk with your family, check your alarms, make an escape plan, and make sure you know where to find local emergency information.

Prepared families are safer families. ❤️🖤
